One year I was decorating my Xmas tree. I didn’t have many decorations. I had a bunch of Star Trek models I’d made when I was a kid. Perfect.
The next year I want to repeat myself and I didn’t have money to buy decorations. I did have enough to buy spray paint and plastic army men. I recreated the storming of the beach at Normandy with troops of painted silver and gold. I put lights into bits of cotton balls to make explosions, fires, or muzzle flashes. It fit my two criteria for a good design; cheap and funny. As long as you don’t think too much about the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan.
Last year, I saw the internet meme of a They Live CONSUME angel. I tracked down the guy who made the original model. He wouldn’t make one for me but he walked me through steps of making my own. I wish I could have had Nada (Roddy Piper) and Frank (Keith David) figures fighting to decorate the tree but my skills don’t go that far.
Next year a Hot Wheel tree would be cool, especially if I can rig a track spiraling from the top to bottom to race cars.
I have other ideas using origami, legos, Halloween decorations, or maybe a Road Warrior Thunder Road theme. We’ll see how it goes.
Happy Holidays and don’t forget to tip your waiter!
Your Pal,
Shannon Wheeler
I have a Disney Adult friend who decorates his tree with figurines of Disney characters. I absolutely love that CONSUME angel!
That is literally my tree. 35 Star Trek ornaments and a giant Enterprise on the top. It makes me so happy :) also, what you need for the hot wheels idea is BluTrack!
